I was going to do an update after one month.. but life was busy and it didn’t happen. So you get the two month update.
First, I really, really, really love yoga. I was super unsure how I would feel about it, especially after the first class. It was hard, and my lack of flexibility made it hard. And you have to be quiet…. me and quiet don’t go together.. (PS when you write together does it bring you back to second grade.. to get her?) And then you have to clear your mind.. which I so struggle with. Also I really love high energy, heavy weights workouts.. like a lot. So this doesn’t fall in my box. But my box seems to be changing shapes.
Yoga is so much harder than I ever imagined. Holding those poses for 6-8 breaths, sometimes feels like forever. Today was one of those days, as I had sweat dripping off my face. And no, I don’t do hot yoga. I was just that sweaty today. It does so much to engage my core, and strengthen it so much more. And my arms and shoulders are burning sometimes. Who knew??
So an update.. the top picture is my crow pose.. it has gotten so much easier, and no longer slam my face into the ground when I practice it. And I can balance much longer. It helps for me to really spread my fingers, and ground myself into the floor. I promise I am having fun, but I really have to concentrate to do this pose.
In one class they had us do a headstand, against a wall. Ummm.. that was super hard. But guess what? My legs aren’t straight, but I am getting it. I practice a lot, and sometimes I fall over. When you fall over, roll.. don’t try to backbend it, like I do.. it hurts a lot. I am working to remember to roll. And I really want to do a handstand.. but I think I need so much more strength for that. I am working on building it.
And this pose.. I tried to do it originally, and I couldn’t even tell you what it was called.. but I can do it, kinda for a few seconds. But I am so excited. I cannot wait until I can get this pose more solid. This is Eka Pada Koundinyasana II also known as Pose Dedicated to the Sage Koundinya II.. right, remember that. HA!
Guess what? I can now touch my toes if I am warmed up, even when seated, with my legs straight. I am working super hard to get my legs to go lower in butterfly. I really struggle with loosening up my inner thighs.. those muscles are so tight! Any tips? But I love the movement that is coming, the muscles that are loosening. Two months, twice a week and my body is changing in amazing ways.
I look forward to yoga.. to the quiet, to the time to be, to the time to just focus on my practice and let everything else go. I think it helps me to be more zen.. maybe? I always leave so grateful I took the time to go, and to work hard, even when I would rather be taking a nap. Hopefully I will update with next month.. and a better headstand.
PS All my workout clothes featured are from Athleta.. No I am not sponsored, but I love the brand, a lot.
